A two-vehicle crash involving a stolen Kia Soul led to multiple children being injured and the deaths of three people in Kansas City, including a 16-year-old, according to police.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Tuesday after Kansas City police received reports of two men who died at the scene of the wreck, a department spokesperson told USA TODAY. Seven individuals were taken to local hospitals, including four children and three adults, in serious condition after the crash, police said.
The driver of the vehicle, the 16-year-old, and two of its passengers, a 37-year-old man and an unidentified female, died due to the crash, according to police. The woman died at the hospital, while the men were declared dead on the scene.

How did the crash happen?
Before the crash, a Kansas City police officer pulled over a blue Kia Soul for a traffic violation, police said. As the officer exited his patrol vehicle, the Kia sped off. The officer did not drive after the Kia but learned the car was stolen after running its plates, according to the department.
While the Kia was speeding away from the traffic stop, the vehicle approached a white Chevrolet Tahoe driving in the same direction, according to police. The Chevy Tahoe slowed down to make a left turn onto a northbound street when the Kia crossed into oncoming westbound traffic to pass the SUV, the department added.
When the Chevy Tahoe began making the left turn, the Kia hit it, causing the SUV to spin. The Chevy driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Kia hit a large utility pole and flipped onto its roof. The eight occupants in the Kia included the 16-year-old driver, the 37-year-old male front passenger who also died at the scene, the female passenger who died, a 20-year-old man, a 4-year-old, a 6-year-old, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old, police said.
